Abstract
Honours Thesis - Stewart V. Wright, 1997
The primary subject of this thesis is the presentation of models that allow calculations of the properties of nuclear matter at various densities, with particular emphasis on densities greater than nuclear matter density. We initially start with Quantum Hadrodynamics (QHD) and use it to predict an equation of state for neutron stars. We then develop the MIT bag model as a simple, QCD motivated model of nucleon structure. Finally, the Quark-Meson coupling (QMC) model is presented, the chemical potential for nuclear matter at various densities is calculated and a parameterisation for the electron chemical potential is found.
