Our family in 2006

As another busy and eventful year draws to a close we find ourselves in the familiar situation of not having kept the website up to date during the year and relying on the Christmas update to remedy the problem. We did manage an update when Ilias was born, but to fill in the rest of the year we have prepared this selection of photos.

As is usual on pages such as this, click on the thumbnail for a larger version of the photo. We hope you enjoy the photos.

Photos from 2006

6 February 2006: Laura started the year wanting to go camping, so on a warm-ish night in February a tent was pitched in the back yard and Laura slept with Kylie in the tent. It was all rather exciting for a little girl - Laura took hours to go to sleep. The only downside was discovered over 10 months later - one of the tent-pegs punctured a pipe from the irrigation system.

9 February 2006: 2006 was an exciting year for Laura - she started school. Here she is, all dressed and ready to tackle her first school day. Laura loves school and is full of enthusiasm which is great to see.

24 February 2006: With Laura going off to school and learning new things Matthew didn't want to be left out. He perched himself at the kitchen bench, grabbed the calculator and started "adding up". He'd punch numbers into the calculator (left) and then write the "result" on his piece of paper (centre). We haven't a clue what the result (right) means but Matthew seemed satisfied at the end so the figures must have worked out.

25 February 2006: Laura's third birthday was celebrated in a big way. At lunch time (left) Laura had a party with some friends and at dinner time it was the family's turn to celebrate (right). By the evening Laura had decided that she was a big girl of three and therefore was capable of cutting her own birthday cake.

May 2006: School provided Laura with many new experiences. She successfully completed her first school project (left) and participated in Sports' Day.

July-August 2006: Laura never turns down an opportunity to dress up, and Letterland Day (left, 6 July) and Book Week parade (centre and right, 22 August) were big days for Laura. For Letterland day she choose to dress up as "Lucy Lamplady" who, you'd never guess, has a thing with the colour yellow. In Book Week Laura wanted to go as a princess so Kylie put together a rather convincing costume out of things she had lying around.

August 2006: While all this was going on Matthew was progressing on with his construction ability. We would often construct precariously balanced buildings with his blocks, on top of which would go a selection of his cars for no apparent reason. It was however vital that the cars were put there.

July 2006: During the school holidays Laura and Matthew had their face pained by a friend. Matthew was a puppy dog and Laura was a butterfly.

During the July school holidays Laura and Matthew had their first try at paper mache (left). The task was to construct masks using balloons as a base, but both quickly convinced themselves that it was "yucky" and things went down from there. Kylie ended up having to complete the masks, in the process making a mental note to keep paper mache projects firmly in the distant future. In contrast, blowing bubbles (right, in November) went down much better.

November 2006: Matthew loves helping; here he is assisting Nanna and Grandad (Kylie's parents) pack their car.

November 2006: As is documented elsewhere Ilias was born on 10 November 2006 and came home on 13 November. Eventually one has to bite the bullet and give babies their first bath at home; on the left is Ilias'. While he was this small it was easiest to use the hand basin but he seemed to take it all in his stride. From the moment he was born Ilias has been incredibly alert, and as the picture on the right shows he insists on opening his eyes as wide as they can go to ensure that nothing goes unnoticed.

November 2006: Ilias, like most babies his age, does a lot of sleeping which does give people a lot of cuddle opportunities. His brother and sister are also very interested in watching him, as the picture on the right (with Grandad) shows.

25 November 2006: We made some recordings of Laura and Matthew singing songs for prosperity. Both were very enthusiastic and would have kept going long into the night if given half the chance.

2 December 2006: Laura and Matthew's Uncle Adrian was married to Karin on this day at Port Elliot. It was an exciting day for all concerned, including Matthew and Laura.

December 2006: To round out this whirl-wind journey through the year that was 2006 we thought one more picture of Ilias was in order. What's significant about this picture is that it shows that Ilias finally decided that sleeping in the pusher wasn't all that bad after all. For the first month of his life he had resisted all attempts to settle him in the pusher, but finally he capitulated.
