Laura and Matthew's 2004

We have been incredibly slack at getting photos up onto Laura and Matthew's website this year, not the least of which is because this year has been really busy. To make amends we have prepared this selection of pictures taken in the course of the year. As an added bonus we also include some recent drawings done by Laura and Matthew.

As is usual on pages such as this, click on the thumbnail for a larger version of the photo. We hope you enjoy the photos.

Photos from 2004

25 January 2004 Grandma Woithe passed away during the year but before she did we were fortunate to be able to visit her several times (although not as often as we would have liked).

26 January 2004: On a warm summer day, Matthew had his first taste of the beach at Semaphore. He loved it, and Laura was more than happy to come along for the ride.

30 January 2004: Sitting on mummy and daddy's bed.

5 February 2004: Some of the things Matthew got up to at Tasman Hughes' birthday party at Jack-in-the-box. Tasman is one of Laura's friends.

16 February 2004: "Houston, we have ignition!" Matthew discovered the art of locomotion in February (albeit initially in reverse) and hasn't looked back since.

22 Feb 2004: Laura celebrated her third birthday in style with some of her friends at a park not far from home. We had a sausage sizzle followed by cake and sweets. For the curious, the cake has white chocolate frogs on top.

29 February 2004: Laura was lucky enough to have a ride on a horse at Zachary's house, north of Adelaide. Zachary is a friend of Laura's (the son of one of Kylie's friends).

13 April 2004: Both Laura and Matthew enjoy playing their instruments at home.

16 April 2004: Another mechanic in the making perhaps?

17 April 2004: Uncle Darryl had a birthday party and Laura couldn't resist the offer to help blow out the candles.

25 April 2004: Among all the other things she learnt this year, Laura finally worked out the mechanics of riding a bike. Matthew is doing his best to copy his big sister, but sometimes there's nothing better than playing mechanic.

26 April 2004: The swing is one of Matthew's favourite toys in the back yard. We guess it's because of all the time he's watched Laura doing the same.

1 May 2004: Laura relished the chance to entertain visitors at Matthew's first birthday party. Matthew enjoyed everything - playing on his drum kit, riding on his car and of course eating his cake.

2 May 2004: Matthew went through a phase where he had to sit on everything at least once.

3 May 2004: Matthew, like his sister before him, likes playing around with his rings.

9 May 2004: A family photo in the back yard.

11 May 2004: Matthew's first experience in the sandpit. It didn't take him long to get the idea.

16 May 2004: Laura did it a few years ago and Matthew had the same idea. Have cart, will sit.

12 June 2004: Laura is really good at helping mummy in the kitchen.

2 July 2004: Both Laura and Matthew enjoy their drawing.

24 July 2004: Laura has learnt lots in her swimming lessons this year. Here we have proof that she can float on her back all by herself - no help needed from Bec.

13 August 2004: Matthew on his playmat.

15 August 2004: We took a trip to Celand Wildlife Park in the hills to show Philipp some of our native animals. Phillip was a German student boarder we hosted during August and September. Laura and Matthew enjoyed feeding the animals and Laura even got to pat a koala.

17 August 2004: Playing inside.

20 August 2004: Laura and Matthew are generally good in the bath together. On this particular occasion Matthew decided that Laura was hungry.

21 August 2004: The sandpit is a huge hit with both Matthew and Laura.

25 August 2004: Matthew started swimming lessons this year and is doing very well.

27 August 2004: Finger painting is messy but Laura and Matthew loved it.

6 September 2004: Laura started music lessons in the "Beebopper" class and is doing really well. Matthew's not far behind.

19 September 2004: Laura playing soccer in the back yard with daddy and Philipp.

25 September 2004: Matthew - lord of the rings.

19 October 2004: After many months of experimenting Matthew has finally worked out the finer details of the dune buggy.

22 October 2004: Laura started pre-entry at Kindy one day a week. Next year she starts four days a week in the afternoon session.

22 October 2004: We have a large exercise ball which Matthew sees Laura rolling on. He does the same thing but on balloons. How the balloon doesn't burst we don't know.

23 October 2004: Both Laura and Matthew enjoy their book time, although it's fair to say that Matthew's attention span isn't as quite as long as Laura's.

13 November 2004: Matthew's first haircut - it had to happen eventually.

Drawings by Laura in 2004

These two drawings were done by Laura on 9 September 2004. The first one shows Philipp (a German boarder we hosted in August and September) with Daddy. The second is mummy and Mrs Hulme (a friend from church).

Here we have another person drawn by Laura on 16 October 2004 along with an example of her colouring in done on 5 December 2004.

This is an example of Laura's work in music. Here we have Laura's impressions of a "great big whole note", a "tun" (crotchet), "doh" (middle C), a "shh" (crotchet rest), "Mr Bass" and "Mrs Treble".

Drawings by Matthew in 2004

Matthew didn't want to be left out of the action: these two examples are from 12 November 2004 and 4 December 2004 respectively. We've no idea what they are but we're sure he does.
