Peru, a country full of culture, tradition, nature
and much more. One of the cities where you can experience it all is
Arequipa. It is Peru's second most important city, located just
below the edge of the peruvian Altiplano. It is at the South, less
than one hour far away from Lima by airplane and has also several
daily flights to Puno(Titicaca See) and Cuzco (Macchu Picchu).
Arequipa lies at the foot of three volcanoes: Misti
(5,825m) which is mostly covered with snow, Chachani (6,075m) and
Pichu Pichu (5,664m). The climate is mild and dry throughout the
year, and temperatures do not rise above 25 C or fall below 10 C.
Arequipa is only 75 km from the Pacific ocean.
It is nicknamed the 'white city', because many of
the buildings in the area are built of sillar, a local white rock.
This rock was quarried from the many volcanoes that surround the
city, including the towering El Misti. The historic center of the
city was named a UNESCO world heritage site in 2000, in recognition
of its architecture and historic integrity.
There are many other more places to visit in Peru,
such as Cuzco, Puno, Ica, Puerto Maldonado, Trujillo, Piura,
Iquitos, etc. We hope you can have some time to spend in Peru
after and/or before the School. The School is contacting the travel
agencies for very good touristic packages.
