Hanged Man

The Hanged Man

Upright: The ability to adapt to changing circumstances. Flexibility of mind. Willingness to submit oneself to the dictates of the inner self and cast aside practical considerations when the time is right. Wisdom and guidance from the unconscious.

Reversed: Over-reliance on the concrete mind. Materialism. A warning of impending psychic disorder through an inability to accept the reality of the unconscious. An inner struggle ending in defeat.

Satori -- A Transitory Enlightenment At Best

Now is this Temple become a diamond of rainbow flashing dew, a rose of fire shining out from the mists of the world. Now are we who stand within the sacred place gathered together not as Children of Earth, but as Gods. For our purpose is the Great Work, which we follow beyond tide and beyond time, and our meaning is Mystery. We raise our arms, and the vast powers of creation and destruction are but a little beyond our fingertips; we raise our heads and hear sounding far from us the echoing thunder of our every act. O ye who stand in the Temple in silence, now has come the time to speak. Let us declare why we are met here and what is to be done.
The quote that opens this page is the Ritual of Opening for the Ceremony of Initiation of the Outer Circle of the Hermetic Order of the Aurum Solis. I intend to dedicate these pages to esthetics, such as discussion of metaphysics, philosophy, and various other arcana.

For those of you who are interested, I am a practicing Magician of the Hermetic Traditions, with a strong bias towards Animism/Shamanism. My philosophical structure is best described as Zen Humanist.

As a magician, I tend to place a rather large emphasis on symbology and thus archetypes, and so tend towards Jung rather than Freud for my analysis of people. As a Zenist I tend more to the theories of Heiddegger than Wittgenstein in that the error is in our perceptions rather than in our attempts to communicate these perceptions. As a shaman, I revel in existence itself, and don't try to tear it down into little bits.

Here are some of my commentary which may be of possible interest:
