As the title says, I'm a PhD student in the
High Energy Astrophysics group at the University of Adelaide.
I've been working on the HiRes detector which we are using to observe
the
highest energy particles in nature. My
project has involved the development of GPS clocks for the
detectors, calibration work and observations. I have also worked on
software to reconstruct the trajectories for cosmic ray air showers
viewed by both HiRes sites and analysed the dataset of such stereo
viewed airshowers. I submitted my thesis for examination in May 1998
and it was accepted without changes in June 1998.
Postscript copies of my thesis chapters are available below, as are
gzip'ed versions and html versions of my
abstract and my
conclusions and further work chapter.
Chapter 1: Cosmic Rays, (gz)
Chapter 2: An Introduction to Extensive Air Showers, (gz)
Chapter 3: The HiRes Prototype Detector, (gz)
Chapter 4: GPS Clocks and the HiRes Timing System, (gz)
Chapter 5: EAS Reconstruction, (gz)
Chapter 6: Analysis of Stereo Observed EAS, (gz)
Chapter 7: Conclusions and Further Work, (gz)
Copies of all chapters are also available in a 2Meg tarred gzip'ed file
At present I am working as a demonstrator in first year laboratories but will soon be taking up a job with the weapon systems division of the Defence Science Technology Organisation.
I have also helped develop a local unix guide, primarily for new users. It covers some basic unix commands, latex, awk, and plotting programs such as gnuplot and idl.
This page constitutes my official home page. I do have a (more elaborate) personal home page at http://www.physics.adelaide.edu.au/~cwilkins/cwilkinson.html but university policy prevents me from having a direct link. Even though all you need to do is just type "cwilkinson.html" at the end of the address, I can't do it or the university may persecute me....
