Space-times are generalized by constructing spaces whose structure is defined purely by a causal or signalling relation. It is shown how concepts similar to null geodesics (rays) and space-time topology may be defined for such spaces. Attention is focussed on discrete signal spaces, with a view to applications in numerical relativity and quantization.
