Deformed W-algebras, quantum affine algebras and integrable models of statistical mechanics

Deformed W-algebras have been identified as the dynamical symmetry algebras of a large class of integrable models. Thus, it has become clear that the algebraic framework of those models closely parallels that of their critical counterparts -- Conformal Field Theories -- and that similar methods for solving those models can be exploited. We give a basic introduction to deformed W-algebras with emphasis on the extremely intricate relation between the deformed W-algebra W_{q,t}[g] and the representation ring of the of the quantum affine algebra U_q(g^).
