Deep inelastic scattering at HERMES and on the lattice
I will discuss recent work on two aspects of deep inelastic
scattering. First I will describe the recent HERMES measurements of
the b_1^d(x) structure function of the deuteron and examine the size
of target mass corrections (corrections scaling as powers of the
deuteron mass over Q^2) in their data. I will also present recent
theoretical progress in determining parton distributions and meson
distribution amplitudes from lattice QCD that overcomes existing
obstacles to the number of moments that can be extracted.
