Kepler: the under-sung hero of modern physics
As the International Year of Physics draws to a close, it seems like a
good time to look back at the achievements of Johannes Kepler. Kepler's
is often viewed as a "poor man's Newton", but I believe that this does a
great injustice to "the first astrophysicist". I will look at Kepler's
life and work, attempting to show how radically he changed and defined the
course of physics, and ask whether his work has relevance to current
unsolved questions in physics at the dawn of the new millenium.
