Electromagnetic properties of baryons
We have been investigating the electromagnetic properties of octet and
decuplet baryons by numerically simulating quenched QCD on the
lattice. With the aid of the FLIC fermion action developed here at
the CSSM, we are exploring the light quark mass region in an
unprecedented manner. Of particular interest is our search for chiral
non-analytic behaviour in electromagnetic observables including the
charge radius and magnetic moments of quark distributions in the
proton, for example. We compare our results with the expectations of
quenched Chiral perturbation theory. Here the distribution of up
quarks in the neutron and the neutron charge radius itself are
particularly fascinating.
