The physics of neutron stars.

Neutron stars properties (such as observations on masses, radii, gravitational redshifts and cooling) provide interesting challenges. The central issue is the determination of the equation of state(EoS). A major ingredient in the EoS, the density dependence of the nuclear symmetry energy, will be discussed in some detail. Results of recent applications of the self-consistent Green function method are presented and compared to those of other approaches. Implications for neutron star properties are discussed, as well as possible constraints that can be obtained from data on finite nuclei.
