Netscape

Most users will use netscape on unix or PC's on a regular basis, this section describes the location of user defaults and the basic preferences that you may want to modify.

Unix: Netscape preferences and cache are saved in the ~/.netscape directory, the default mail location is ~/nsmail but users can modify this if desired.

Novell: The Physics Department recommends that netscape preferences/cache/mail should be saved in the users V:Netscape directory on Isaac. This can only be set when creating a new profile using the "Profile Manager" utility. Please contact us if you are unsure of how to do this. There are several advantages to this setup, all your settings/mail/preferences are backed up to tape centrally. You can also get at your mail from any PC in the department by logging on to Isaac and creating a profile as described above. The only limitation is the quota on your V: drive, 20MB for students, 50MB for staff. This can be increased if necessary, although nothing replaces a regular cleanup of mail folders:-)

Preferences

The "preferences" window is accessed under the "edit" menu at the top of the browser or mailer. There are four areas you would normally edit - homepage, mail server, proxies and the application launcher.
