LaTeX, the formatting language for Scientific and Mathematical Documents

A text formatting language. Although there are heaps of text editors, there are no word processors on the workstations. Thus to write up documents and/or theses you need to use latex. Although somewhat un-user-friendly it is very powerful and is the workstation package that has a comprehensive equation-writing facility. It's also text based so it's used as the common format for exchanging documents.
