The department uses a combination of Legato "Networker" and "Arkeia" to backup the Unix computers nightly, with tapes rotated monthly. There are three sets of tapes so files can be restored from up to 2 months ago. It can be a time consuming business so please only request files that you really need. the main purpose of the backups is to protect against disk failure in our main servers.

All other areas are NOT BACKED UP, so please use the space in your home accounts wisely as, for most people, this is the only area from which we can recover your files.
Novell account space on Oliphant is backed up by ITS using the SAN tape drives. To recover anything in your Novell account, please contact the helpdesk (phone 33000, email helpdesk@adelaide.edu.au).
