The Atmospheric Group in joint collaboration with the Australia Bureau of
Meteorology and Atmospheric Radar Systems Pty
Ltd now have a prototype VHF
radar at Mt. Gambier, South Australia. Mt Gambier is situated approx 400km South East of
Adelaide and is approximately equidistance from both Melbourne and Adelaide.This VHF radar operates at 44.7MHz and is capable of operation as a Spaced Antenna Radar, a Doppler Beam Swinging Radar and a hybrid Doppler -- Interferometer. At the moment comparisons of the different modes of operation, rawindsonde measurement and other observations are been conducted.
