Fifth International Symposium on Tropospheric Profiling: Abstract Submission

Advances in atmospheric measurement and numerical modeling techniques have fostered both improved understanding and forecasting of atmospheric behaviour in the troposphere. This symposium will provide a forum for discussion of the needs of the user community and the benefits to be provided from improved tropospheric observation. It will also assess the adequacy of current and projected profiling techniques for ground-based, airborne, and space-borne remote sensing and in situ measurements. Techniques to be considered include profiling radar, cloud radar, lidar, sodar, radiometers, and balloon-borne or aircraft instrumentation.

Contributions that discuss combined multi-sensor, multi-platform observations and profiling applications as well as assimilation results are especially welcome. Papers are solicited in the following areas:

Scientific needs for profile data in:

Mesoscale modeling and data assimilation
Weather analysis and forecasting
Tropospheric processes and dynamics
Atmospheric water vapour
Precipitating weather systems
Air quality and tropospheric chemistry
Radiative transfer

Sensing and signal processing techniques for profiling:

Wind, temperature, water vapour, turbulence, trace gases, and aerosols
Clouds and precipitation.
