at the University of Adelaide "Out of Africa: a 2 billion year old nuclear reactor"
Abstract:
Enrico Fermi's experimental nuclear reactor, constructed in the 1940's under a sports stadium in Chicago, is widely described as initiating the world's first nuclear chain reaction. But the fossil remains of a natural reactor have been discovered in Africa that operated 2 billion years ago. This lecture describes what was found and how it worked.
The medal is awarded for the best performance in the 2006 Year-12 Physics exam, with the certificates being for students who received a score of 20/20.
