NEVER MIND THE QUALITY, FEEL THE WIDTH : A BLACKSMITH'S GUIDE TO OPTICAL LINESHAPES

Classical oscillator theory predicts that the natural lineshape of optical transitions is lorentzian. However, normally optical spectra from gases, liquids and solids are non-lorentzian. This discussion will discuss the information that may be deduced from line narrowing experiments in which the natural lineshape is recovered using high resolution spectroscopy techniques.

ALL WELCOME

Members are invited to join the speaker in the Equinox restaurant (Union building, University of Adelaide) at or after 6pm. Please make a booking with Ms Tanya Weir on 8303 5996, or with the AIP-SA secretary (details above), by 12 noon on Tuesday March 4th. Everyone is welcome at a supper which will be provided by the AIP after the meeting.
